Queer Archive Luxembourg

Documentation of queer history in Luxembourg

As the oldest LGBTIQ+ organisation in Luxembourg, Rosa Lëtzebuerg asbl also has the task of documenting and preserving the contemporary history of the queer community in the Grand Duchy.

According to our statutes, this work consequently includes the creation of an archive. This archive currently consists of collections and donations from some members as well as the targeted documentation by Rosa Lëtzebuerg asbl itself and is thus to be made accessible to the queer community as well as to academics and students.

Another part of our task, besides the preservation of the archives, is the processing of the holdings. In this context, our exhibition “25 Years of Homosexuality in Luxembourg” from 2006 is particularly worth mentioning, as well as the exhibition “LGBTIQ+ History in Luxembourg”, which is currently under construction and will be on display in Escher Batiment IV during Luxembourg Pride Week 2022.

Loans and donations of personal papers and estates

An archive lives from its archival records. Rosa Lëtzebuerg asbl is naturally interested in building up as extensive an archive as possible. For this reason, in addition to documenting current events, our archive also relies on archival materials from earlier years. Therefore, there is the possibility to hand over realia and documents related to the queer community in Luxembourg to the Queer Archive Luxembourg of Rosa Lëtzebuerg asbl as a loan or even as a donation, for example as an ancestral or bequest. With this act, a later scientific reappraisal of LGBTIQ+ history is thus made possible.

Donations or loans can look like the following:

  • Photographs,
  • newspapers or newspaper articles,
  • posters, flyers, brochures or other publications,
  • documents describing one’s life as a queer person
    • Diaries
    • Correspondence
    • Private archive

All donated realia are received by means of a loan or donation form, which states the ownership and personal rights of the people appearing in the documents.
